SCHOOL AND EARLY CHILDHOOD RESOURCES

The MRC Vallée-de-la-Gatineau has developed a very comprehensive document on the resources available for early childhood settings, elementary schools and secondary schools. Most of the resources compiled in this document concern all early childhood settings, elementary schools and secondary schools in the Outaouais region.

This document has two main objectives:

  1. Present a vision of environments favorable to food, a physically active lifestyle and the prevention of weight-related problems;
  2. Guide the work of stakeholders and help them promote favorable environments with their partners.

As part of the Action Plan to promote healthy lifestyles and prevent weight-related problems 2006-2012 – Investing for the future, several actions are planned with different circles and with several partners to promote and support the creation of environments conducive to the adoption of healthy eating habits.

In this perspective, the MSSS has produced a guide aimed at equipping stakeholders in school environments so that they support the accessibility and supply of healthy food products and that they undertake to prioritize healthy eating in their establishments. Aimed first of all at professionals in the health network who will support school stakeholders in the application of the framework policy For a healthy shift at school, this guide presents the steps to be taken and contains the information necessary for the establishment of an environment that promotes healthy eating in schools. It may be useful to other stakeholders, such as school boards, schools and school food service providers.
