Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and what could be more romantic than giving a gift that not only delights the taste buds but also supports local producers? Outaouais is full of gourmet treasures, and this month, we invite you to discover the favourite products of some of our passionate artisans.
La Confiserie Wakefield: A Chocolate Love Story
For Marc Fournier and Sylvie Richard of La Confiserie Wakefield, chocolate is more than an ingredient—it’s a true passion. Their business, nestled in the heart of the beautiful village of Wakefield, is a tribute to indulgence and artisanal craftsmanship.
“We chose to settle in Wakefield largely because of the beauty of the region,” says Sylvie. “Outaouais is full of breathtaking landscapes that inspire us every day.”
And their flagship product, chocolate, is a reflection of this region: authentic, generous, and comforting. From chocolate-covered marshmallows to bark, “turtles,” bars, and sponge toffee, every creation is a love declaration to taste and quality.
“Chocolate needs no explanation when it comes to gifting,” jokes Marc. “A pretty box slipped into a gift bag is enough to bring joy. And for a romantic dinner, what could be better than enjoying it as dessert?”
Bergerie Bouwman Érablière: From Farm to Plate, with Love
Sabrina Bouwman of Bergerie Bouwman Érablière is a passionate farmer who fulfilled her childhood dream of owning her farm. Starting from scratch, she has spent the past six years raising animals and transforming her products with a special focus on quality and authenticity.
“My father owned a slaughterhouse, and my grandfather had a dairy farm,” says Sabrina. “Over the years, our herd has steadily grown and now includes lambs, cattle, pigs, and chickens. Along the way, we also started maple syrup production and various processed products.”
Her favourite product? Homemade sausages made with real ingredients—cheese, vegetables, fruit, and nothing artificial. She offers no less than 35 different varieties!
“I personally handle the meat cutting and process my products from A to Z,” explains Sabrina. “I love providing affordable food for Petite-Nation because everything is homemade rather than going through intermediaries.”
And for Valentine’s Day, her sausages are perfect for a romantic meal: fondue, raclette, or any other gourmet dish.
Miss Marmelades: A True Lover of Flavors
Kristine Landry, founder of Miss Marmelades, shares her philosophy:
“Everything I make is handcrafted, in small batches, using high-quality ingredients. No artificial ingredients—just jams, marmalades, jellies, vinaigrettes, and coulis full of flavor, all made with love in Outaouais!”
When asked about her favourite Valentine’s Day product, she doesn’t hesitate and knows exactly how to charm a loved one.
“If I had to choose THE perfect product for a touch of sweetness and indulgence, it would be my black fig jam with rum and vanilla. Made with organic Mission figs, a hint of rum, and a touch of vanilla, it’s a true delight! Smooth and fragrant, it’s perfect on a cheese platter, as a dessert accompaniment, or even for a chic and gourmet brunch.”
A true enthusiast, Kristine instantly responds when asked what motivated her to start her business:
“Because I love it! Transforming raw ingredients into little jars of happiness is my passion. I love knowing that my products bring people together around a good meal. Every recipe is carefully made, by hand and in small quantities, to preserve real flavors. Outaouais is full of talented people and incredible products, and I’m proud to contribute in my own way!”
Giving a Miss Marmelades product means offering something good, authentic, and made with love. For Valentine’s Day, why not create a gourmet gift box with Quebec cheeses, a good wine, and some chocolates? Or for an intimate dinner, try it with melted brie, duck breast, or even in a dessert like an almond tart. It’s the perfect sweet-and-savoury touch to make everything even more memorable!
